Player from 1952 to 1953

A Jewish lad from Willesden and a burley centre forward & prolific goal scorer with both head and foot for Hendon, Miles Spector joined Chelsea as an amateur from Hendon in mid 1952 and played 6 times for the first team before ruturning there at the end of 1953.

From "Does your Rabbi Know You're Here?" by Anthony Clavane - "Spector played truant to turn out for Chelsea's reserve team in an Eastern Counties League game against Spurs. He missed a penalty and had a poor first half but, luckily for him, the Blues' manager Ted Drake, arrived at the interval. In the second half, the sixth-former scored a a fine goal. When he was called into the headmaster's study the morning after the game, he feared the worst. Instead of being punished however, he was told he'd been picked to played for Chelsea's first team. He made his debut as an 18 year old school boy, in a 3-2 win over Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. For each of the six times he played, Drake had to telephone the school in advance to get the head's permission. Spector's best preformance was in the FA Cup fourth round win against West Bromwich Albion where he set up 3 of the teams 4 second half goals. When Hendon's club historian wrote a profile of Spector for a magazine, Spector requested that all references to his jewishness be removed."
