Men's Non First-Team from 1937 to 1939

Pending individual appearances being added to the database, this is the information from Peter Wollaston's reserve Team players book:

Walter Akers started his professional football career with Wolverhampton Wanderers and moved on to Newport County without playing in the first team of either club. He moved on to Bournemouth in 1935 where he played 15 games (4 goals) before joining Chelsea in November 1937. Unfortunately he was unable to get into Chelsea’s first team, as can be seen below, but his name was seen in the proposed line-up of a further 14 Combination games, and he moved on to Mansfield Town ready for the start of the 1939/40 season.

Although Akers had been transferred in May 1939, he returned to Fulham, joining the Police Reserve and, immediately after getting married, joined the forces, playing for Chelsea, presumably as a guest, in the friendly played against Tunbridge Wells Rangers on the 14th. October 1939. After the war he joined Gillingham where he played 40 games (20 goals) before finishing his playing days in non-league football with Corby Town and Goole Town.

In 1950 he became manager of Corby and led them to the United Counties League championship in both of his first two seasons. He subsequently went on to manage Kettering Town.
