Tommy was bought from Leyton for a total £650. According to the cash books, a fee of £500 was recorded as paid on 24th December 1908 and he was registered with the league on the same day. A further fee of £150 was paid to Ayr FC on 13th January 1909. This is thought to be maybe a contractual "sell on fee" due to the relatively short time he had been with Leyton, but uncertain.
