Two 'local players' Willie Brown & J Briggs were taken to play in this game as the squad had been split in two for two games on the same day. Jack Whitley & Jack harrow, the trainers also played to make up the numbers. From the press: "It was much the weaker side which journeyed to Santa Fe to meet the Union of that city and the result, 5 – 0, is not to be wondered at. Chelsea were forced to take with them two local players, Willie Brown to take up the left back position, and J. Briggs, to play outside-right. Irving, the right-half of the team, got a nasty crack on the ankle in Saturday’s match against Independiente and judging from the size of that limb after the match it is doubtful if he played, though he journeyed with the side, and if he did it is a certainty he would be useless other than for filling in the full number of players" |
