Sam Jones made her debut at the weekend and was on the pitch a mere 10 minutes before she opened her account for the season.

Jones, who signed from Langford last week, replaced captain Nicky De la Salle after 70 minutes and put the game beyond Portsmouth with 10 minutes to go.

Former Arsenal and American international Kara Lee, opened the scoring after 2 minutes with the most bizarre goal we will see all season. Lee picked up the ball on the left hand touch line and blasted towards goal from over 40 yards... after being caught in the wind and a dodgy bounce the ball found itself in the back of the net.

The scores stayed 1-0 till half time in a fierce and competitive match. However, after the break Portsmouth broke early and found an equaliser within the first five minutes of the half. This setup an even fiercer 40 minutes for Chelsea.

Chelsea re-started well and controlled the game for long spells until Nicky De la Salle stepped up for a free-kick on the edge of the box. One kick later Chelsea were back in the lead, with a fine direct strike from the stand-in captain on 63 minutes.

On stepped debutants Sam Jones and Karen Ray, who signed from Millwall last week too. It only took 10 minutes for Sam Jones to find the net after a great through ball by college colleague Holly Grogan. Jones controlled and slotted low past the keeper. Game, set and match.

George Commented: "We were solid today. It was a physical game and our players helped each other out every time. Credit to the make-shift defence who were strong today; Ana Wagner slotted in in replacement to Serina Regali who failed a late fitness test, and to Clare Stevens playing at the back once again, replacing Kirsty Hewitson. Congratulations to the debutants today, especially Sam who clinched the game today with her goal."
