Apparently Ball came from Edghill Athletic in the early part of the 1925/6 season, but it is not known exactly how many games he played. However it is known that he played in 7 games, scoring 7 goals in the London Combination. There is no trace that he was still with Chelsea the following season.

This player could be Samuel Ball, who was born in Newsham on the 21st. August 1907 and died in 1984. This player had a ‘trial’ with Chelsea in 1925. His original clubs were Sedghill Colliery Welfare, Blyth Spartans, New Delaval Villa and West Stanley before coming to Chelsea. Afterwards he returned to Seghill Colliery Welfare but, between 1926 and 1928 played 44 games (22 goals) for Ashington. He was later to return to New Delaval Villa and Blyth Spartans.
